Shockwave Therapy FAQ

What Is Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy or (ESWT) is an 18-minute (approx.) non-surgical procedure used to cure chronic Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, Tennis Elbow, Shoulder Tendonitis, and other chronic muscular injuries.

How Effective Is ESWT?

Whilst it is recommended that patients receive no less than 6 treatments the results can be amazing. On average patients see a reduction in pain of 92% with only one treatment.

What Is Involved in The Procedure?

During the treatment, you lie back comfortably with the area to be treated resting on the machine on a soft, water-filled membrane. The technician uses an ultrasound scan to view and target the damaged location. During the treatment, you will hear repetitive clicking sounds.

What Conditions Can Be Treated By ESWT?

ESWT can effectively treat a range of musculoskeletal conditions. Complaints involving attachment points for tendons and ligaments in major joints such as the plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, shoulder, elbow, and knee are common areas for ESWT treatment.

When Should I Consider ESWT?

If you have had your condition for more than six months and have tried three conservative therapies with no results, do not wait. Continuously using degenerative tendon tissue can cause further damage. When the condition progresses to a rupture, ESWT is no longer an option and you will have no treatment alternative but invasive surgery.

Additionally, if left untreated, you can experience new problems. If your pain has just begun, you may be able to avoid ESWT by early intervention.

Shoulder Injuries

ESWT is suitable for treating Shoulder Tendonitis, chronic neck, and shoulder pain caused by overuse of the tendon and repetitive strain injury.

Leg Injuries

ESWT treats Hamstring Tendinopathy, caused by changes to the tendons attached to the pelvis often caused by repetitive activities such as running.

Shin Injuries

ESWT is suited to treating Shin Splints and Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome which is an injury of the tendons and muscles in the shin area.

Heel Injuries

Achilles Tendinopathy often occurs through running, football, and endurance activities such as skiing, HIIT and CrossFit. ESWT is a proven method for treating this delicate area.

Foot Injuries

ESWT is suitable for treating Plantar Fascia, an injury often caused by overuse and inflammation of the ligament that connects the heel to the toes.

Back & Pelvis Injuiries

Lower back pain treatment. ESWT gets to the source of chronic back pain, Lumbago and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome often caused by heavy lifting, desk-based jobs, and sports.

Knee Injuries

ESWT is suitable for treating Patellar Tendinopathy of the knee often caused by activities that bare weight on the knee, such as cycling and skiing.

Tennis Elbow

ESWT is suitable for treating Tennis Elbow, an injury that can occur through over use of the joint in activities such as tennis, squash, and CrossFit.
